General Plan/Local Coastal Plan Update

City has embarked on a journey to update the General Plan/LCP over the next 2+ years. This entails targeted updates to the existing 2003 combined General Plan/LCP document. Specifically, to land uses in key areas including the Downtown, the Carpinteria Bluffs and the research industrial park. There will be 2 brand new elements of the General Plan: 1) the Climate Change and Resiliency Element, which will be based on the forthcoming Carpinteria Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan, and 2) the Healthy Community Element, a multi-disciplinary element that focuses on health in every policy.

The Plan

The City of Carpinteria General Plan/LCP is the primary planning document for the City and realizes the City’s vision of high quality of life, small beach town character, and natural resource preservation through the identification of issue areas, development of objectives, and policy implementation.
